The Book of Life

The one who is victorious will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life, but will acknowledge that name before my Father and his angels.  Revelation 3:5

The NFL is preparing for the 2018 draft day and there are young men all around the country who are dreaming of hearing their name called.  I am sure the sports channels are consumed with this topic but I currently do not have access to these "life giving" channels.  My wife and I are currently living in a temporary house until work is completed on the new house. The temporary living arrangements are comfortable but I have had to resort to the internet for my sports information.  I was reading last night and watching some videos of the upcoming draft.  All of this information is exciting but then reality begins to sink in that once again, every year since 1992, they will "probably" not call my name. So, once again the NFL will have to go another season without my talent. I saw a quote while reading from Kurt Warner who played quarterback for several years in the NFL. He said, “Young men who didn't have name's called, I didn't either, but it'll be called in Canton this Fall... Not the start you wanted but the ending is up to you”. Kurt was an undrafted quarterback from a small college who played several seasons for an Arena Football League team. He finally received an invitation to the St. Louis Ram’s training camp. He made the team as a backup quarterback but no one ever expected him to play. Kurt beat all the odds and would eventually become the starting quarterback, a Super Bowl Champion, a NFL MVP, and a Hall of Famer. He is also a man I have admired for a long time for his Christian values.

When I read the quote from Kurt Warner I thought to myself that my name has not been called on draft day but also has not, and will not, be called in Canton at the NFL Hall of Fame. I know my name will not be called on those two days but I am assured that my name will one day be read aloud from the book of life. I may live my entire life on this earth without my name being called but I can be sure that one day Jesus will acknowledge my name before His Father and I will spend eternity with Him. I prayed today for all of our names to be read from the book of life. If we have asked Him to dwell in our hearts, to fill our minds with His thoughts, and to have His words come from our mouths, He promises to acknowledge us to His Father and tell Him that we are His.
